Here is a first hand report on the topic, that is widely experienced by women in Africa and across the globe.
Roller coaster in employment
Being a young girl in the corporate world will leave you hurt, struggling and bound trauma, just to survive. I have always been determined; I am always trying to make ends meet. work out but unfortunately things take a rollercoaster of life. The employment world is chaotic, especially to young women still trying to strive to make ends meet. Growing up I have always wanted to be the savior of my family but unfortunately the world is never fair enough. I am 24 years old, and I started working at an early age, but in many companies, I have experienced inappropriate behavior from managers. Yes, I am in the hospitality industry, so you know. How crazy it gets there especially by the Top management. I have not gone through this once, not even twice not thrice. They will put you in a situation where you must be stuck in the job or lose the job because you could not offer what they want in return. The world is so cruel now, we never know who the carrier of the virus is. I received an offer for the position of Guest Relations Officer at a renowned hotel in Kenya. A governor owned it, and a senior executive managed it. This employee who was then the director offered me the job so that he could benefit from it in return, of course, sex benefits. He was all over my neck, and I remember this very day I had travelled from where I was to the premises of the hotel, I never knew he was staying in the hotel and was giving accommodation. Because life has its own chapters and, being my link to the hotel, he decides to give me accommodation in the hotel thinking he could lure me into the trap whenever he wanted. I need the job, but I will not tolerate any form of harassment. I remember waking up the next morning and leaving on the spot. I even shared with my mother the fact that the man was so close to my family that did not bother him at all. Long story short; I lost the job because I never gave in my body to him. This situation occurs frequently, resulting in my unemployment whenever I decline. I would not trade my health or my life for mere employment. I am still unemployed, but I believe one day things will work out in my favor. It breaks me so much that women in the current society must give out their bodies for them to get employed despite them going to universities and acquiring their certificates, Diplomas, Masters, PhDs and even Doctorates. It is so sad. Declining to agree can be a crucial decision, regardless of the outcome, I would prefer working independently rather than within a company environment. This is a common issue for developing nations. From what I have encountered countless times I would say the ideal solution to all this is self-realization and finding a bearing to be our own boss in the entrepreneurship world where one is able to make one’s decision and be in the business field. I am authoring this article so that one day it can be a piece of information for the growing generation and always knowing their values. What if I never cared about it?
Look, I would rather struggle with unemployment than get untreatable diseases. I would like to create a safer business environment also for other women where they can be successful and stand on business.
